6 Reasons Why I Switched to Wearing Natural Fibers

These are my six major reasons for fully switching to wearing natural fibers. Natural fibers are clothing and fabrics made of cotton, linen, wool, cashmere, silk or bamboo.

1. Less Body Odor
Have you ever experienced sweaty leggings made of synthetic materials and noticed a strong odor? Or even been near someone at the gym with this issue?

That used to be my struggle with non-breathable fabrics. Now, wearing mostly natural fibers like cotton, wool, and linen, I rarely have body odor problems—even during workouts.

natural fabrics are decomposable

2. Decomposable
I don’t like fear-mongering, but landfills overflowing with fast fashion made from plastics aren’t good for us, the land, the water, or animals.

It brings me comfort knowing that clothes made from natural fibers will eventually break down and return to the earth without causing harm.

3. High Vibration
High-frequency fibers are real! I feel a noticeable energy dip when I wear synthetics, but I didn’t realize it until I started wearing 100% wool or 100% linen.

A tip: avoid pairing linen and wool together—their frequencies can cancel each other out.

4. Look Richer
Natural fibers often signal higher quality, giving your outfit a more polished appearance. But quality doesn’t have to come with a high price tag—70% of my wardrobe is second-hand from thrift stores.

It’s not about cost; it’s about finding well-made pieces and knowing how to pair them with your body.

5. Gentle on Skin
This ties into breathability. Synthetics often made me uncomfortable, likely causing low-grade inflammation or exacerbating existing sensitivities. My skin would feel hot and itchy.

When I first tried wool, I found it irritating, but after a few minutes of relaxation against the fabric, I was completely comfortable. Now, I can wear wool, cashmere, or even wool tights without any discomfort.

avoid microplastics

6. Avoid Microplastics
Synthetic fabrics release microplastics that can enter your body—especially workout clothes. These microplastics can act as endocrine disruptors, affecting hormones.

This is another reason I avoid synthetics against my skin.

All in All…
I do occasionally wear a tutu or dress made from polyester, but overall, my wardrobe is natural fibers against the skin.
